Stowaway is pleased to present ‘Summer Lovers’, a solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based Sarah D’Ambrosio. D’Ambrosio presents 13 intimately scaled oil paintings. Please join us for an artist reception July 11, 2026, from 6–8 pm.

D’Ambrosio’s works in Summer Lovers are intimate, in scale, in subject, and in touch. Figures swirl in from abstraction, moving fluidly between subject and ground as shape, body, and stage intermingle. They draw you close, and as the subjects reveal themselves, so does D’Ambrosio’s hand. Paint moves at varying speeds, sometimes hurried, sometimes deliberate, the marks answer the composition as much as the composition answers the marks.

D’Ambrosio wants her mark-making to come from somewhere below conscious thought, closer to the nervous system. There’s trust in that exchange, and with it, vulnerability. She offers us a viscerality and a truth. Below is a reprinting of the 1689 poem, “Let Me Know,” a touchstone of the show.

Let Me Know

If you love me

I will hitch my skirts up

and wade across the Mogami River

(parting the reflected full Moon with my knees)

Sarah D’Ambrosio was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She began studying painting in 2010 at Brooklyn College, where she earned her BFA. After which she continued her studies at The Mount Gretna School of Art in Pennsylvania, before moving to pursue her Masters at University of New Hampshire in 2015.

She has most recently exhibited her work at the NYSS Projects at DUMBO, NADA Miami and her first solo Exhibition at MARCH gallery in 2025. She works and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
