In the end I'd rather wonder than know

Opening: Saturday, March 29, 2025 (5-8pm)
On view: March 29 - May 3. 2025
STOWAWAY is pleased to present In the end I’d rather wonder than know, a group exhibition of fourteen works by Morag Caister, Karin Campbell, Zac Hoffman, Indiana Hoover, Mark Milroy, Julian Pace, and Zack Rosebrugh. Curated by exhibiting artist Indiana Hoover, this show brings together a core of painters exploring contemporary figuration.
“The title of this show is borrowed from the writer Mary Ruefle. A dear friend made the introduction after sharing an enigmatic poem whose meaning I didn’t understand. She quoted Ruefle: ‘In the end I would rather wonder than know.’ Though a more talented writer than I might wax poetic about the meaning of this or that, exposition is sometimes contrary to the point. The point here is to wonder. The artists included in this show are earnest and wonderful. They are some of my favorite painters, and on many occasions I have been moved by their work. It feels like a curious bit of magic to pull all of these pictures into the same room and open the door. I hope you like it.”
